Tucked away in the mountains of Kaleden, 20 minutes south of Penticton in British Columbia lies a spectacular 18 hole golf course known as Twin Lakes Golf Course. The course itself offers a challenge for all abilities, with its generous fairways making it very playable for the average golfer, and it’s strategically placed bunkers and water hazards ready to trap even the most experienced players. There are several tee boxes on each hole to allow each player to match the difficulty of the golf course to their own skill level and ability. The various tee markers can allow the course to play anywhere from 5406 yards to 6867 yards in length. The 285 acre property is nestled in a scenic valley, with some stunning views and vistas of the mountainous terrain that surrounds it. The golf course itself weaves its way through the stunning forests and nature of the local region, almost as if it had always been there.
Twin Lakes Golf Course offers even more than just a great golfing experience. The clubhouse serves up succulent food and an interesting variety of Microbrew beers and local wines. The options available mean that almost everyone can find the tipple that suits their taste! The Clubhouse also provides an outdoor patio that overlooks the golf course and provides some amazing views of the 1st, the 9th and the 10th holes. There is a fully stocked pro shop within the club house, with several PGA Professionals on site should you need any advice or wish to improve your game with a golf lesson at their flood lit driving range.
One of the most popular attractions aside from the golf course is the onsite RV park situated only a stone’s throw from the first tee box. Nearby you will find endless amounts of activities to take part in including fishing, hiking & biking trails, sandy beaches, nighttime entertainment, and several local wineries open for visiting.
The glorious fairways and undulating greens are a treat for any golfer. Holes 8, 15 and 16 standout for me and show the diversity in challenges that the course has to offer. The par 5 8th hole is a long and straight run from tee to green, measuring 591 yards in length. First you must thread your tee shot through the trees and past the water, before tackling a tricky approach shot, guarded by a large bunker at the front of the green ready to gobble up any golf balls that dare try to run up. Meanwhile the 15th and 16th offer two very different challenges, 15 is a short par four that everyone can be aggressive on, and the longest hitters will be looking at driving the green. With no real danger on this hole it plays as the easiest hole on the golf course. However there’s most certainly an element of false security when you approach the 438 yard par 4 16th hole. Far more danger lurks with this long par 4 and a very oddly shaped green guarded by a water hazard on the left hand side.
Twin Lakes Golf Course is most definitely somewhere I would recommend to anyone whether it is the keen and avid golfer looking to test their skills, or a family looking for a fun and interesting place to visit for a few days.
