Hole 10

Despite being the newest course in the Lower Mainland, having opened in 2012, Pagoda Ridge Golf Course looks as if it has been around for years! Carved through 160 acres of rolling hills in Langley with mature trees, Asian inspired architecture and sweeping views of the Fraser Valley and Golden Ears Mountains, Pagoda Ridge is definitely a course worth experiencing.

Wide open fairways of Pagoda Ridge

The par-72, 18-hole golf course ranges from 6,965 yards on the back tees, all the way down to 5,071 yards on the forward tees, plus many choices in between. In fact there are six different sets of tees you can play from, making Pagoda Ridge suitable for players of all abilities. The course takes a slightly different approach and provides a front nine that plays to a par 35 with one par 5 and a back nine that plays to a par 37 with three par 5s.

This beautifully manicured course is kept in great shape with top of the line drainage allowing for relatively dry play even after weeks of rain, which is great since Pagoda Ridge is open most of the year (closed from December 15th to February 1st). The fairways are quite wide and forgiving, but strategically placed bunkers throughout and water hazards coming into play on over half of the holes will keep golfers honest. The relatively flat course doesn’t have too much change in elevation and makes walking the course an enjoyable experience for players of all ages.

pagoda-ridge-golf-course-review-hole-3-greenThe large, open, bent grass greens of Pagoda Ridge make for an inviting approach shot but can often lead to some long first putts. I found the greens to be very consistent from one hole to another, allowing golfers to adjust to the speed and breaks quicker than most other courses. There’s a great selection of wide open, flat, rolling and undulating greens as you progress through your round at Pagoda Ridge.

Chinese inspired architecture

Chinese inspired architecture is found throughout the course and makes Pagoda Ridge a truly unique visual experience. The facilities are located within Asian inspired pagodas, a replica war ship serves refreshments after the 9th hole as well as providing a backdrop to the 18th green and a mini great wall weaves its way throughout the back nine!

1st hole green

The first hole greets golfers with a short slight dog leg par 4, allowing golfers to settle into their game by laying up their first shot or going for it right away. The relatively flat green will allow golfers to feel out the speed and breaks before tackling the rest of the course.

8th hole green

Further into your round, you arrive at the short and picturesque eighth hole par 3. With a sweeping mountain backdrop you take your tee shot and hope the pin placement is forgiving instead of being placed behind one of the three greenside bunkers.

Signature Hole 10

A few holes later you arrive at Pagoda Ridge Golf Course’s signature hole 10 – a par 4 that’s under 300 yards. With the green sitting on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Fraser Valley, it’s quite a sight to behold. A well placed tee shot can land you on the green in one, opening up opportunities for a birdie or eagle. After this hole the course provides a shuttle for walkers to traverse the steep downhill through the forest before arriving at the tee box on the 11th hole.

Part way through the back nine you finally approach hole 14 which plays alongside the replica great wall that you’ve been eyeing throughout your round. When approaching the green, players who tend to hit stray shots to the left may get lucky with a bounce off the wall, while others who hit to the right will be out of luck with the water hazard. Upon completing the hole, players take a scenic walk on top of the great wall before arriving at the next tees.

Pagoda Ridge Golf Course features a large patio set under two large tents, with full bar service, serving pub style food and overlooking the practice area. Practice facilities include a huge putting green with chipping area and hitting nets and while they don’t have a club pro, Pagoda Ridge can put you in touch with local qualified golf lesson providers.
